Village E3: Survival of the Human Spirit

From the Publisher: Imagine going to sleep in Colorado, then waking up on a beach with the ocean in front of you. That is what happened to John. With his mind flooded with questions, he is faced with the monumental task of survival in this strange place. One moment he has a life that is familiar, then without warning that life ends and a new one begins. He is angry about being there, and that anger stays with him till the end, suppressed but still lurking. He is tormented by solitude at first, but that solitude ends one day suddenly. Is it possible to find love in a place that he hates? He finds the answer to that question and more as he embarks on a journey of survival and discovery. Just when he is becoming comfortable with a complicated three way relationship and the life that he has, everything changes. Their lives aren't their own anymore, and as time goes on, the unexpected becomes expected. One day at a time, they search for answers and eventually find some.

My Review: Village E3 will get your attention from the beginning! John mysteriously wakes up at the beach, which would be awesome on any given day, but that day John was too confusing on how he got there. Seeing how John lived in Colorado, and fell asleep there, only to discover the beach when he woke up would be enough to drive anybody crazy.

As he gets accustomed to his new-found life, one day he gets a surprise: two girls!! He sees them walking on the beach, assuming they woke up in the same confused fashion as he did only months ago. But his obstacle now is getting these two women to trust him, and maybe figure a way off the island together.

Join John, Hailey, and Katie as they learn how to survive in their new home, and maybe figure out who's behind all of this.

Bargepole Management: Minimal Input - Maximum Gain: The Art of Securing Excessive Compensation

From the Publisher: Excerpt from review in Forbes:
“As far as management books go, Bargepole Management is something of a rare gem. The premise steers clear of the cliché business management titles that attempt to inspire young hopefuls into donating their lives to the cause. It throws out the overused CEO quotes, routine back-breaking ideologies and rituals we’re told to adopt in order to be successful. Instead, it replaces them with insight into an age-old management style that we may be fully accustomed to, but without realizing. It’s one that requires minimum effort, but offers maximum gain.
Vandell says: “You don’t have to be a good footballer to be a successful football coach. Everyone can be a bargepole manager. This book just teaches you how to sustain it.”

My Review: If you've ever been in business, then this book will be one that will definitely open your eyes to how things have been, and continue to be done. While listening (I have an Audible account) to Vandell describe the different types of bargepoler's, I kept thinking, "Oh my gosh! I know someone like that!!"

It's amazing how many people sit back and take credit for other's work. He goes into how lawyers, politicians, and even designers are so good at bargepoling, that no one even seems to notice.

Vandell has clearly researched his stuff and knows the ins and outs of how to spot a bargepoler. But he doesn't stop at businesses, no, he talks about how politicians are the ultimate bargepolers, and once he describes it, there's no way you can deny that fact.

I do recommend this book to anyone who is in any type of work environment. It is an eye-opener for sure, and will it help you to see those around you who are sitting back and taking the credit. Vandell doesn't shy away from pointing the finger, and even labeling those who are lazy and use others to do the work for them. It's really quite sad once you see how so many use the seemingly weak individuals to overload on work and get no credit for it. But, that's business, I guess. Not that it makes it right, but maybe this will help you to pin-point who those are in your business and might give you an upper hand if they ever come to you for "help." ;)

You can purchase on Amazon, or Audible.com!

Vic: Terror Incognita (The Incredible Adventures of Vic Challenger Book 4)

From the Publisher: After a little camping trip that was mostly fun, and a rumble in the streets that brings the Deputy Sheriff calling, Vic and her friend Lin Li head off on their next travel adventure.

No danger this time, they say. Eat good food, see exotic locales, little hiking, lots of photos. They do get all of that. And more. The cave dwellers, the madman, the dinosaur, the great apes, the snakes, the headhunters. And is Lin going to betray Vic for something so simple - to save her own life?! And Vic is still waiting for a call or letter from Stu James. For starters!

Just when things look straight ahead, there's a wall or a twist. Non-stop action. Accurate historical and nature settings. The #1 awesome adventuress from the 1920's in her 4th book and if you crave action you won't be disappointed!

My Review: To be fair, I need to start out by saying I came into this series on Book 4, so needless to say, I was a little lost. Victoria Custer (known as just Vic to most), Lin, and Emma seem to be the best of friends. So the book starts out with the three of them planning their shared birthday party and a girls trip. The only problem is one of them, Emma, seems hesitant. The other girls can't figure out why she wouldn't jump at the chance, given that she usually loves an excuse to hang out. They eventually find out, and once they do, Vic takes care of it.

Vic is the strong character, the one that seems to not have any fear and stands up for what is right. While the other characters were great in their own way, I liked her most of all. There's just something about a woman who knows what she wants and isn't afraid to get her hands dirty.

Once the situation back home was settled, Lin and Vic were off to the Amazon! They were paid to take the trip from Vic's editor. He wanted them to hike the trails and spend a couple of weeks getting stories to write for the newspaper. Along the way though, there are definitely obstacles that involve dinosaurs (yes, you read that right!), big ugly snakes (which I HATE!), and a lot of adventure!

One very interesting thing about this book, well, I guess about this series, is that Vic is actually from another time. She comes back as different people, all the while trying to find her true love, Nu. They were separated by Mother Nature over 100,000 years ago, so while on her adventure, she is looking for him. He even comes to her in dreams. So that was pretty interesting for me.

One thing I will say about Jerry Gill, he did an amazing job portraying the scenery, and the reader will for sure feel like they are witnessing everything that's going on.

Overall, I liked this book, but I'm sure didn't get into it as much as I probably would have if I would have started at the beginning. Having said that though, I do recommend it! But I recommend starting with Book 1 :)

Morium: Dark Horizons

From the Publisher: In Book 2 of the MORIUM Trilogy, Alexandria and Nathan's struggle with their supernatural powers continue.

When a new person enters her life, Alexandria or Lexi discovers that she doesn't need supernatural powers to have a brighter future. She can leave her bullied past behind and rebuild her life. Meanwhile, "The Gift" takes deeper hold of Nathan and his hunger for revenge grows. But he fights his need to absorb souls to regain Lexi's trust and save their friendship.

Stacy finds herself caught in the conflict between her closest friends, even as she battles her own demons. Whose side should she take? Will she choose love over friendship... or will she fail them both?

An opportunity to get back at Lexi's assaulter pushes Nathan back into the path of darkness. One final act of bullying sets him over the edge, and he decides to put an end to the never ending pain and humiliation he and his friends suffered over the years.

Can Lexi save Nathan from completely giving in to the dark influence of The Gift?
Will their friendship survive?

DARK HORIZONS will immerse the reader into the intricate psyches of the bullied characters we rooted for in MORIUM. Morals aside, can we really blame Nathan for his anger and his need for revenge? Through indifference, did we not have a hand in creating the monster he has become?

My Review: If you didn't see my review of the first book in this trilogy, Morium, then I suggest you read it now so you're not too lost in what's going on.

Okay, this installment is absolutely everything you would want in a sequel!! It picks up right where the first book left off, and doesn't seem to slow down. It is full of action, and suspense. Nathan and Lexi are still on the out's with their friendship. Well, who can blame her? Nathan tried to kill her in the train yard! The gift is really blocking his common sense.

Lexi, Stacy, and Nathan continue in their, what I like to think of as love-triangle (I know who I'm rooting for ;)) and it will have you on the edge of your seat as to if he will finally come to his senses and listen to Lexi and give the gift up, or if he'll finally go all-in and forget about everyone who loves him. It really is a hard decision, if you think about it.

Meanwhile, Lexi seems to be moving on with her life, but the whole time I was like, "What about Nathan??!" Haha!

Everything pretty much comes to a head when Stacy and Nathan are the victims of bulling one last time. Nathan has had enough and is ready to get the ultimate revenge. While Stacy is dealing with her own set of problems. Other than having a boyfriend who has a supernatural gift, she is left with trying to figure out her future since she'll be leaving for college, and leaving her best friend behind (Lexi). Will Stacy finally tell Lexi how she really feels? And will Nathan get his final revenge on those who have caused him nothing but trouble?

You have to get the book to find out!!!

Oh my goodness, I honestly cannot tell you how good these books are. S.J. Hermann has quickly become one of my all-time favorite authors. And lets just say, I'm very picky. His writing is dark, but has a definite real-life feel to it. The characters are easy to relate to, and the situation is one that, I think, a lot of us can relate to. I mean, who hasn't been bullied at least once in their life and wanted revenge?? (Sheepishly raising my hand.)

I can't wait until the third installment comes out so I can finally see how it will all play out!!

Life with Jesse Daniels

From the Publisher: Anna Devlin is just your average girl with an average life and eternal bad hair days. Living across the street from her prankster boyfriend, Derek, and his bug-loving brother, Jesse, —who also happens to be Anna’s best friend— life slips from ordinary to chaos when their out-of-control cousin, Greg, moves in.

As Greg and Tiffany, Anna's twin sister, develop a relationship, Anna’s in the middle of her own crisis when she realizes she not only has feelings for Derek, but she’s also a little bit in love with Jesse Daniels. Spending the end of the year with parties, prom, and dealing with conflicting feelings, Anna realizes she has to choose between her boyfriend and her best friend before it’s too late.

Making mistakes is just part of growing up, but for Anna it could mean losing everyone that matters to her. Life, however, takes a turn for the worse when Greg makes a bad decision which changes the course of everyone’s lives. Will Anna ever be able to own up to her mistakes? Will everyone be able cope in the face of tragedy? And what will this mean for the future of life with Jesse Daniels?

My Review: Chrissy Favreau’s debut coming-of-age novel is perfect for young adults, but can be enjoyed by the older crowd as well! This book is a fun, racy, and engaging read that will have you laughing one minute, and possibly tearing up the next. I noticed one reviewer said, “This is not just some ditzy teen drama but a realistic and hard hitting portrayal of real life and the consequences of feelings and mistakes.” Sums it up pretty good, I think.

Not only do we see Anna and her relationship with Derek, but we get to see feelings of how she starts falling for Jesse and the struggle that entails. Also, it brings to light emotions that have to be dealt with. If you remember anything about your teenage years, I'm sure you can relate ;) And if you're anything like me, I like a good love story!

As the reviewer said above, you don't have to be a teenager to enjoy this book, so why not give it a try? This entertaining and thought-provoking contemporary romance kept me hooked until the very end.

The Waist Management System

From the Publisher: Have you ever noticed that diets don't work in the long term? They are a bit rubbish. Most of us dieters steadily gain weight by putting on everything we've just lost, plus a little more.

Our bodies and brains are hard wired for a world we no longer live in. Our genes want us to live as hunter gatherers. But we are surrounded by more food than we know what to do with. Our bodies lay down excess energy for a famine that never comes. We are very good at it.

The bad food tastes so good. It is nice to eat food with high calories. This used to confer a survival advantage which is why we all try to eat as many calories as we can find. We then try to lie about, conserving as much as we can.

The Waist Management System shows in detail where it all goes wrong, why our waistlines are expanding and why it isn't all our own fault.

Modern medicine and psychology now offer us help to reverse the downward spiral. It is all about making better choices every day.

The print version has a detailed diary included at the end - though this can be purchased separately.

About the Author: Dr. Peter Windross lives and works in the South of the UK near the New Forest. A General Practitioner for over ten years, he has a special interest in weight management. He reads more about running in his spare time than is good for him. He is often told that he should get out more, though he obviously thinks that means on the trails.

He enjoys writing books about how to do stuff a little better. He is no expert and has made more mistakes than most. He is thus well qualified on really how not to do things 'this way'.

My Review: Dr. Windross brings a new perspective to losing weight! Not only does he keep out the typical "exercise and eat right" plan that we're all pretty much accustomed to, but he goes into detail on how we can scientifically see why our bodies gain weight.

He also makes it clear that our ancestry has a lot to do with how we eat and the way we see food. It's really an amazing thought that most of us have probably never even thought of!

Dr. Windross teaches you how to decipher what true hunger is versus the munchies. And how to make better food choices each and every day, to ultimately reach your goal. Overall, I believe this is one of those books that will help those who are on the path to get into shape, and lose some weight.

It's available on Amazon. You can also visit his website for helpful articles :)

Everything You've Ever Done

About the Author: Amelia Marie Whalen spent the last three years rock climbing, going on road trips, and writing her memoir, Everything You've Ever Done. It was named after something her husband, Dave told her soon after he was diagnosed with a fatal brain disease.

Amelia and Dave were real life characters who blasted through a life stranger than fiction, and together, they created a story that is more deep and powerful as any spiritual guide.

My Review: Amelia Marie Whalen is a new author who wants to share her powerful story. However, since the book isn't published yet, you can go to her blog and read excerpts from selected chapters of the memoir! How cool!

While you're there, sign up for her newsletter to stay on top of when the book will be available! Click here to visit Amelia's blog :)

Squirting has not garnered much attention in sexuality education, except in pornography (a poor outlet for sex ed). Few women understand what it is or how their body can achieve it.
